Marquette-Alger Technical Middle College

The Marquette-Alger Technical Middle College (MATMC) is a public, tuition-free, early middle college program.  It enables students enrolled in a public high school in Marquette or Alger Counties to earn a high school diploma, a technical certificate, and a significant number of college credits from the Northern Michigan University or Bay College.

To take advantage of this incredible opportunity, students must:

  • Apply for acceptance during their sophomore year
  • Must be a current high school sophomore from a Marquette or Alger county school district
  • If admitted, must complete Middle College Orientation
  • Pursue a certificate or degree in health sciences, professional trades, or cyber defense
  • Please keep in mind, this is a competitive admissisons process

The MATMC will target students who have traditionally been underserved, especially those who are less engaged and at-risk of dropping out of high school, economically disadvantaged, and first-generation college students. It will, however, be open to all qualified students.

This educational option is the result of extraordinary collaboration between local school districts, the Marquette-Alger Regional Education Agency, Northern Michigan University, Bay College, and local communities. It reflects the belief that it truly "takes a village" to provide students with the best possible education.
